The ex-Newcastle central defender hasn’t featured for the Wearside outfit since he damaged knee ligaments in Sunderland’s first home game of the season against Birmingham.
The Scotland star told the Journal: ‘I’m feeling a lot better than I did.
‘The injury is improving and I’m feeling good. I’m probably still about three weeks away from being able to play again but at least the end is in sight now.’
