Steve Bruce has decided to move on from the signing of Kuranyi as he stated he is happy at his current club Schalke. This now allows Bruce to have a closer look on Salvador Cabanas who is currently top goal scorer in Mexico.

Cabanas, 29, is attracting interest from the Sunderland manager as he looks to build his striking options for the remainder of the current season. The good thing with Cabanas being from Paraguay is he will have the captain Paulo Da Silva to help him settle into the North East of England if he decides to move to Sunderland.

Bruce said: ‘I’ve monitored Cabanas. Whether a deal is possible for him, I don’t know.

‘He’s somebody who would be of interest to us, but I’m sure if he became available, there would be a lot more clubs interested too.’

Sunderland are looking likely also to keep hold of Kenwyne Jones as Bruce has advised anyone linked to him would need to make a ‘mind-blowing’ offer for him to be tempted to sell.
