Bruce Makes Striker Signing His Priority

Selling Darren Bent was probably the right thing to do with him asking for a transfer to Turkey at the end of last season. His transfer request that followed the draw with Newcastle was a shock to all fans but with the £24m that we made from selling him we must use this wisely at the end of this disastrous season.

With the recent news that Campbell will be out for another 12 months, Steve Bruce has admitted replacing these two forwards is something that has to be done correctly to push us forward.

Bruce told the Sunderland Echo: ‘Fraizer gets operated on today (Wednesday). He will be out for 12 months.’

He added: ‘He was out on the training ground on Monday having a bit of banter with the players. He’s taken it okay because he is strong mentally.

‘Thankfully, with his strength of mind, we think he will be okay. I hope he will be. If there’s anyone mentally tough enough, it’s him.

‘In January, I was looking at March and April for Fraizer to be fit, and he was making such great progress.

‘It stopped me from going for another striker because I thought Fraizer would be fit in six weeks.’

Kevin Doyle has been linked but the next five games could be crucial in the calibre of player we can attract.

Who would you like to see signed if we can manage to climb the table??

I feel really sorry for Campbell and with Welbeck also potentially returning to United, you have to bring in a couple of strikers. As a Spurs fan, I wonder if Bruce will be calling us about our strikers?
