Steve Bruce has admitted to having no hesitations over starting Gyan and is looking forward to seeing him start up front on Monday.

There is still doubts over whether he will play alongside the injured Darren Bent, who is recovering from a slight groin strain but he knows the Ghana striker will deliver if asked to start.

‘That’s the reason why we brought Gyan in,’ Bruce told BBC Newcastle.

‘If Bent goes down then we’ve got somebody of that quality to bring in, which for a manager is fantastic.’

Bruce added: ‘Gyan’s come in and judging by the way he’s trained the last couple of days he’s far better, he’s happier in his surroundings now, and come to grips with it.

‘He’s done a lot of physical work, which he needed, which has helped him as well.’

Bruce has also confirmed that he will have Kieron Richardson, John Mensah and Anton Ferdinand all ready for the ‘acid-test’ at Ewood Park on Sky this coming Monday.

Who he starts in goal will be also another tough call but he should stick with the impressive Simon Mignolet.
