With Cardiff set for another year in the championship, striker Jay Bothroyd will hope that a Premiership club offers him a chance at the highest level.

Bothroyd has played the majority of his career in the championship and at the age of 28, isn`t getting any younger. Sunderland`s main priority this summer is to bolster their attacking ranks, Bothroyd`s contract is nearly up and it could tempt Steve Bruce to take a punt on the England international.

After Darren Bent`s departure, Bruce and chairman Niall Quinn both identified that Sunderland need a physical presence up front. At 6 ft 3, Bothroyd can certainly mix it with the big men, but the striker would prefer to be known for his technical ability rather than a battering ram

He may not be the most exciting of signings, but he could prove to be a cheap, useful addition.
