Sunderland managed to gift a win to Blackburn at Ewood Park in a gritty encounter in which they maybe just dominated.

Sunderland started the game well with some early chances from Murphy and Jones.

Sunderland then started the second half without Jones as Leadbitter came on for the injured front man. (Fingers crossed he will be ok).

Sunderland`s main chance and the turning point of the whole game came when Samba brought down Murphy in the box.

Referee Rob Styles awarded a penalty, which Deano took. Unfortunately Whitehead`s effort was a poor attempt and Friedel saved the shot easily.

Minutes later Styles is awarding another penalty this time its Blackburn`s turn. McCarthy makes no mistake from the spot and scores Blackburn`s winner.

Any chance of Sunderland getting back in the game is then quashed when Yorke is given his marching orders for a second yellow card.

Vital Sunderland Says
We were overall the better of the two teams and at least deserved a point out of the game.

The game hinged on Whitehead`s poor penalty if he had scored it could have been a much different outcome.
