Sunderland have lodged a £14 Million bid for England striker Peter Crouch according to media reports on Sunday. The bid meets the reported asking price of the south coast club.

Crouch stated earlier in the month that he was not happy being at a club embroiled in uncertainty, as the beanpole striker said that the club have taken a backward step and that he is concerned about having no new manager in place.

The quotes seem to have alerted Steve Bruce, who looks set to splash out some of the £50 million war-chest handed to him by new owner Ellis Short.

The Black Cats have also been heavily linked with Darren Bent in recent weeks, meaning that the club could have real competition for places up front next season.
