Billy Big Bollocks no.2 set to leave

Barely a week after blonde bombshell Liam Lawrence left for Stoke, ego-brother Ben Alnwick is set for a January move to Spurs.

Hollywood hairstyles, boyish good lucks and a new summer contract are clearly not the traits Roy Keane looks for in his players.

Only months after ‘committing’ to a future five years at the club, it would seem the England under-21 international is part of the deal that sees Marton Fulop arrive at the Stadium of Light, with Alnwick set to make the move to North (not South, der) London.

Considering the young prospect, that’s right, prospect, handed in a transfer request at the end of the last season amid rumours of Spurs’ interest back then, it will come as no surprise to any Sunderland fan that he still wants away. Especially now he finds himself as second choice on Wearside.

And while he may have had a case for annoyance last season when he found himself playing second fiddle to a hapless Kelvin Davis, Ben can have no complaints at his treatment this season.

Given a new contract to compliment the number 1 shirt, he played the first 11 games of the season, only for his indifferent form to prompt Keane to give the largely unknown Darren Ward a shot at claiming the goalkeeping position. Ward has not looked back after his recent commanding displays have surprised many on Wearside.

Alnwick could do a lot worse than to stay and learn from a top pro like him. But it seems the wheels are already in motion.

‘Ben has been frustrated at not playing first team football recently,’ said Keane.

‘He has been to see me a few times, so it looks as though he’ll be going on his way. It looks as though it’s a done deal, but you never say for certain in this business because there’s always something that can go wrong.’

It seems Keane, referring to uncertain ‘done deals’, just cannot resist an opportunity to have yet another pop at Ipswich’s Jim Magilton, regarding the Tommy Miller loan collapse.

But back to Ben Alnwick. He’s frustrated at not playing, says Keane. Not playing because he’s lost his spot (rightly), to a ‘keeper who last season played for Norwich’s reserves.

So where is he heading in his petulant stupor? To see if he can displace Paul Robinson of Spurs. That’ll the Paul Robinson of England international fame then. Not forgetting Czech internatioanl Radek Cerny too, the current number two. Good luck Ben lad.

In addition to Hungarian international Martin Fulop, Sunderland are set to receive 1m nicker. Having heard the noises made by disappointed Coventry fans who missed out on him after he spent last season on loan, it sounds like it this is a deal to suit all parties.

I just wonder who’ll benefit in the long run.

Im a Spurs fan, and can understand your frustration, I dont know how good this bloke is, but its obvious that he wont get into the first team until Paul Robinson and Cerny both simultaneously get injured, not much chance of that ( I hope!). Fulop is a good keeper, so I think its going to be good for Sunderland. Only one criticism of your article, we are from North London, unlike the Russian mafia scum and pikey Woolwich A*****l. Have a good season.

were are from north london cocky. and i hope sunderland is not in southampton

  • bullers says:

I feel sorry for sunderland I really do. I have never had any bad feeling against them. Saff Lundun is where Aresenal come from my esteemed friend though – don’t ever make that mistake again. Fulop is a top class keeper and you’ll do well to keep him. He’ll be your number one choice in no time and although I am not that happy hearing that he is going – I do understand its for football reasons – i.e. he wants to play. He is 3rd choice for us out of 4 good keepers – I wish you lot well and hope to see you back in th epremiership soon. If anyone can do it Roy can!!

he won’t get a game at spurs for some time – we have only just played Reading and both our keepers survived.

We’re from NORTH London! Alnwick’s a good prospect for the future, but I agree… it don’t make much sense that he wants to leave to play first team football, then goes to a team that has 2 full international goalkeepers. If he ends up being as good as he was supposed to be, he will be a good replacement for Robinson……….. in about 7 years!

  • rushdenspur says:

he will probably be going back to the championship on loan deals

  • Henrietta Hotspur says:

Wasnt in South London, when I last went to White Hart Lane on Saturday

  • GuySpur says:

I think you know nothing about football if you think that Spurs are the travellers! Get your facts straight dude. There seems to be a lot of sour grapes coming from your end and you may not agree but he will be playing against a better standard of players in the reserve league than the Championship. He will also be getting a better standard of goalkeeping experience and coaching from our coach Hans Segars than your “top pro” Darren Ward. Who?! You’ve probably got a better keeper out of the deal and your “top pro” won’t be in between the sticks for long. I wonder if Darren Ward will still be classed as a “top pro” by you if he then decides to leave as well?

  • comeonyouspurs says:

Must have been quiet there on Saturday Henrietta coz last time I went there it was SUNDAY! Hehe 😉

  • GuySpur says:

It still wasn’t in SOUTH London though!

  • Wearside Jack says:

wo, check out the touchy spurs fans. nearly as precious as your friendly lot Arsenal. GuySpur – you say we’ve probably got a better keeper out of the deal and admit Alnwick will be playing reserve team football here, so what exactly is your point? as that’s exactly the point the article made. And sour grapes? Sunderland fans don’t rate the kid anyway, and are more than happy with the deal.

It seems you’re arguing for arguments sake pal.

  • gabotheyido says:

is there running water in sunderland yet? inbreeds! wow legitimate language skills too – and they criticised this labour government…….

  • zac says:

as a spurs fan i think the article was balanced and i really hope that you guys come up real soon. you sunderland supporters are a credit to your club….the mackems always pack out stadia no matter what league ther are in…unlike that overhyped lot living cloud cuckoo land over at st james’s park. johnny-cum-lately carpetbaggers who were numbering just 12k a week before keegan arrived. they even had a half empty stadium for an important uefa game recently. be great if you guys could displace them in the top flight. big club my arse!
