Sam Allardyce was a happy man when he left Anfield on Saturday after seeing his side come back from 2-0 down to earn a point against Liverpool.

Big Sam knows that the performance that the Black Cats gave showed the sort of fight they need to produce if they are to remain in the top flight come the end of the season.

Big Sam’s men slipped to what looked like just another defeat after going 2-0 down, but in the final ten minutes they scored twice to gain a valuable point.

‘The final-third quality that has been missing was there – if we get that then we win games,’ Allardyce told BBC Sport.

‘We created far more chances against Manchester City than we did [against Liverpool] but today we showed the kind of finishing I was looking for.’

Eight points from the last six games shows that Sunderland are showing signs of improvement, but they still sit in 19th place in the league and four points away from safety.

Allardyce’s side remain 19th in the table, four points from safety and with the worst defensive record in the league.
