Bent Makes England 30

Sunderland striker, Darren Bent was today named in Fabio Capello’s provisional 30 players for the World Cup.

His 25 goals this season has been rewarded with a place in the initial squad, which will be trimmed to 23 before kick off on June 11th.

Bent is in with four other forwards. Emile Heskey, Jermaine Defoe, Wayne Rooney & Peter Crouch join him. He is picked ahead of the likes of Bobby Zamora and Carlton Cole.

Bent’s inclusion means if Capello decides to take five strikers, he will be on the plane to South Africa. More likely though, is that the boss will opt for four forward men and Bent will be in a straight fight with Jermaine Defoe for the final spot.
