Bent eyeing England recall

Sunderland striker Darren Bent is targeting an England recall, even if he is not thinking about it too much at the moment, it is however in his mind.

From Vital England:

It is only early days, and only a couple of games into his career with Sunderland, but Bent seems to have been revitalised by his move – although to be fair he still had a pretty impressive goalscoring record for Spurs last season, in a limited role.

He has stated with 2 goals in 2 games, including the winner against Bolton and the opener in the defeat against Chelsea – in front of the watching England manager – and as he told The Telegraph he is hoping that regular football, and goals, can help him force his way back into Fabio Capello’s thinking: ‘I don’t want to think too much about it but, if I play regularly for Sunderland and get goals and we push up the league, who knows, there might be something for me with England.’

Bent has not played for England since November 2008, when he came on as a sub in the 2-1 win over Germany in Berlin, but is looking to force his way back into Capello’s thinking for the friendly with Slovenia that is followed by the world cup qualifier with Croatia next month.
