Bent Dream Dies?

Darren Bent will suffer the heartache of missing out on representing England in this summer’s World Cup after failing to make an impression against Japan in Graz today.

Bent played alongside Wayne Rooney for 45 minutes and had a couple of difficult chances, both headers, but failed to hit the target. In truth, though, England’s lack of creativity has once again done Bent no favours.

The late appearance of Emile Heskey surely means that Capello will go with Rooney, Defoe, Heskey & Crouch as his four man strikeforce. Although a late miss from a free header, which surely Bent would have tucked away gives him some hope yet.

Bent’s absence would mean good news for SAFC boss Steve Bruce, as he should be fresh and rested to once again prove what England are missing.

Bent will hear his fate for certain on Tuesday when the final 23 man squad is named.

England won 2-1 in Graz with the help of two Japanese own goals after being 1-0 down at half time.
