Bent Dream Dies?

Darren Bent will suffer the heartache of missing out on representing England in this summer’s World Cup after failing to make an impression against Japan in Graz today.

Bent played alongside Wayne Rooney for 45 minutes and had a couple of difficult chances, both headers, but failed to hit the target. In truth, though, England’s lack of creativity has once again done Bent no favours.

The late appearance of Emile Heskey surely means that Capello will go with Rooney, Defoe, Heskey & Crouch as his four man strikeforce. Although a late miss from a free header, which surely Bent would have tucked away gives him some hope yet.

Bent’s absence would mean good news for SAFC boss Steve Bruce, as he should be fresh and rested to once again prove what England are missing.

Bent will hear his fate for certain on Tuesday when the final 23 man squad is named.

England won 2-1 in Graz with the help of two Japanese own goals after being 1-0 down at half time.

I dont think he will be necesarily going home, heskey obviously shouldnt be going, crouch and defoe will be and i think bent should be taken he was alryt in the first half to be honest, we should play 1 upfront anyway but bent should go.

Agree. Heskey is playing poorly and Bent could be brought on with half an hour to go in games and may nick a goal.

    Bent > Defoe, Crouch, Heskey

I think that might have been the last throw of the dice for heskey. Having said that, I’m not sure we wont take 5 strikers anyway – its not like we have a pool of massively talented midfielders who would miss out if we do.

@tuscan3000 There’s more midfielders in the 30 man squad that i’d
hate to drop than if I dropped Heskey or Bent.
You’re saying he could take 5 strikers, who’s to say he won’t take 3?
Then he could take an extra midfielder, and we have quite a few attacking
midfielders (Milner, Lennon, Walcott, Johnson, Gerrard)
