Thankfully the FA have done us a favour for once and allowed this signing to go ahead as we look to build on the performance in last night’s 0-0 draw.

Benjani Mwaruwari, 31, has signed until the end of the season to provide support and competition for Bent and Jones for Sunderland this campaign.

Bruce has added three players during the transfer window and the captain of Zimbabwe joins Alan Hutton and Matthew Kilgallon.

Bruce told the official website: ‘He’s a big, strong, powerful centre forward and one we’ve been tracking for a long time. Im delighted that we’ve been able to bring him to the club, he’ll bring another dimension to our striking options and will be a great addition to our squad.’

Hopefully Benjani did not witness last nights game that was null and void of any creativity or decent service to the front two. With the addition of Alan Hutton we really need to get three points on Saturday in this must win Premier league fixture.
