On-loan forward Nicklas Bendtner has handed Steve Bruce a striking blow with the news he wants to play Champions League football.

Sunderland had hoped to capture the Danish striker permanently in January but Bendtner has admitted he wants to be playing Champions League football.

Bendtner has made it equally clear that he intends to leave North London as soon as possible though, so Sunderland will have a fight on their hands to keep the powerful targetman.

Speaking to the Danish Press this week, Bendtner said:

“I want to play Champions League, let me put it that way.

“Of course I can do that with Sunderland, but that means we have to put our skates on.

“I had lots of offers this summer, but I chose Sunderland. There was some things that were more important at that time.

“Right now, what`s best for me at Sunderland is football, football and football. It`s all about playing some games.”

well, maybe these players should learn to keep their hopes to themselves and stop this drivel, all it does is insult fans surely!? ie I’ll take your wages but I’ll not be staying because I’m too good for you. Bloody modern players eh?!
