Bendtner a doubt for Blackburn

Martin O’Neill could be without the only senior striking option he has for Sunday’s game with Blackburn, with Nicklas Bendtner looking doubtful.

The Danish forward has flattered to deceive so far since moving to the Stadium of Light on a season-long loan, but is the most senior striker left available to O’Neill.

However, Bendtner picked up a groin strain during the Wolves defeat.

Speaking to The Sunderland Echo, O’Neill said:

“Nicklas has a groin problem and we`ll see how he is towards the weekend.

“But if the game was today, he wouldn`t make it as it stands.”

If Bendtner does miss the mammoth clash with Blackburn this weekend, it would leave O’Neill with just Ryan Noble and Ji Dong-Won as striking options. Stephane Sessegnon would look likely to fill in up top once more.
