Following today’s clash between Sunderland and Aston Villa, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Sunderland hosted Aston Villa at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday March 6, with the visitors taking a comfortable three nil victory.

Having spent the first half of the season on loan with Sunderland, Lewis Grabban made his mark in the 34th minute to opened the scoring, and James Chester added a second in first half stoppage time.

The three points were more than decided when Bryan Oviedo found the back of his own net just after the hour mark.

Teams:

Sunderland:

Steele, Kone, O’Shea (Asoro 45), Browning (Jones 30), Love, Ejaria, Cattermole, Oviedo, McManaman, McGeady, Fletcher (Maja 63).

Substitutes:

Williams, LuaLua, Camp, Honeyman.

Aston Villa:

Johnstone, El Mohamady, Chester, Terry, Taylor, Snodgrass, Hourihane, Whelan (Jedinak 60), Adomah, Grabban (Bjarnason 76), Hogan (Grealish 67).

Substitutes:

Lansbury, Onomah, Bunn, Davis.

Speaking to the BBC’s cameras a short time after match day referee Andy Madley blew the final whistle, Sunderland manager Chris Coleman explained.

‘Aston Villa are a good team, they’re not up there for nothing and they’ll be there or thereabouts. You don’t have to give them goals, they can earn goals themselves. But we gave them goals. How many times have I had to watch us concede a second goal seconds before half-time? It’s a bitter pill to swallow for us. In the last three games, I thought, ‘Right, this is a good turning point for us’. But we’ve gone straight back to square one.’

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce in his comparative interview explained.

‘Can we still win the league? I said before that it would take an almighty, calamitous crash for Wolves to blow up, but anything is possible in this league. We’ve given ourselves a chance and that’s important for a club like ours. We’ve got Wolves, Cardiff and Derby at home, so it’s all to play for. We’ve won nine out of 11 and people are still above us. Fulham and Cardiff are having a great run as well, but we’re going well. We’ve got Wolves this weekend, and if we can turn them over, we’ll have a great chance.’
