Ji Dong-won’s permanent move to Augsburg has hit a snag, with it looking unlikely that the striker will be joining them following a loan spell last season.

The German side want to keep the 21-year-old, who helped keep the in German topflight last season after joining them on loan in January, but are having problems raising the agreed transfer fee.

Reports from Germany, according to The Echo, suggest that the time limit that Augsburg had to finalise the deal for the agreed £2m has elapsed and affording the fee is unlikely anyway so at this stage the South Korean striker is returning to The Stadium of Light.

Ji is unlikely to have a future at Sunderland, and with Stuttgart, Freiburg and Borussia Monchengladbach all believed to be interested in him as well a summer departure should come about, just not to the club he might have expected!
