Arca Gives Sunderland The Thumbs Up

Former Sunderland defender Julio Arca is confident that the Black Cats have enough about them to avoid the drop into the Championship at the end of the season.

Sunderland currently sit in 17th place in the league with a vital crunch game against Newcastle United next on the agenda and by the time that game comes, Sam Allardyce’s men could already be in the bottom three. That’s if Newcastle beat Leicester City tonight.

Arca knows what goes on at Sunderland well, he made 167 appearances for the club and he says from what he has seen so far this season and the new players that have been draughted in then there should be no problem for the lads to stay up.

He told the Chronicle: ‘I think Sunderland are going to do it, yeah.

‘They`ve been playing well. They played a lot better against Manchester United and West Ham.

‘They`ve been getting points so I think confidence is getting higher, and they look like they can get points anywhere whereas three or four weeks ago we were thinking ‘Oh they`re playing this team or that, and they won`t get anything`.

‘But at the moment they look like they can anywhere.’
