And the cog begins to turn…

So as Sunderland`s season begins to enter its latter stages, the rumour mill is slowly but surely beginning to turn. Early links to players such a Pepe and Jamie O`Hara have already been incorporated into the tabloids and websites and wetting the appetite of eager Sunderland fans.

But although manager Steve Bruce was giving nothing away during his weekly press conference, he did however leave fans with a little incentive to what is currently going on behind closed doors and the Stadium of Light.

‘We are always on the lookout for talent he told SAFC.com, “We’re at 20 or 22 games every weekend; our scouting network is very good indeed.

‘We have one or two irons in the fire but I’m not giving anything away just yet’ He added.

Its hard to think who might be the “irons” that Bruce is talking about, it could be a number of players, surely towards the summer the names will be rattled out and fans can do there duty in rating them.

Lets look back to February, the last day of the transfer window, ok we didn`t have the busiest of days but that was the policy of Bruce, as we all know he HATES the winter transfer window, but saying that he did bring a few gems to the club.

For instance, Alan Hutton and Matthew Kilgallon, both experienced defenders and both wanted by big clubs, Hutton signed on loan while Kilgallon was signed for a undisclosed fee. Since then Hutton has had the better run out and has, hands down, been the better signing, giving us something we have lacked during that horrific run that once threatened us with a relegation, pace and attack.

Surely he now has the chance to deepen his search, since he is currently discussing and thinking about becoming a pundit at ITV`s World Cup programme over the summer. Could that two or three be four or six, who knows?!

But bare in mind we have some very talented youngsters returning from season-long loan spells, Jack Colback at Ipswich and Martyn Waghorn at Leicester.

So how to conclude this little incite to the summer, yes we will all miss the premier league but we do have the World Cup. Sunderland in the Premiership for another season is what I like to call a ‘Brucey Bonus` and also the return of the greatest derby in the footballing world. Us vs The Mags.

So drink up, keep your ears to the ground and fingers crossed we get quality not quantity.
Ha`way the Lads!
