Fabio Borini`s late equaliser against Crystal Palace at the Stadium of Light last night has been hailed goal of the season by a relieved Sam Allardyce after the game.

The best goal in the Premier League this season it was not, but it came at a time that would have any manager getting excited about it.

Italian Borini came on with just ten minutes of the game remaining and produced a moment of magic for the Sunderland fans very late and secure a point that saw the Black Cats lifted out of the bottom three.

It all started off well for Big Sam’s side, Dame N’Doye gave them the lead in the first half but Connor Wickham struck twice against his old club and the game was heading for another defeat until Borini sent the fans home happy.

Allardyce told the Chronicle live website: “I`m delighted that Fabio scored the best goal of the season – not just here at Sunderland, but in the whole of the Premier League.

“You`d have to go a long way to beat that one.”

After last night’s result, all eyes are on Stoke City tonight who take on Newcastle at the Britannia Stadium.
