As we updated yesterday on Vital Sunderland regarding David Meyler’s injury scan, the worst has been confirmed.

Meyler, 20, has been ruled out for up to 12 months with a ruptured cruciate knee ligament and faces a hard recovery from this career threatening injury.

Steve Bruce told the official site: ‘It looks like a really serious injury for the kid. He’s in Bradford as we speak and will be operated on Friday. We wish him a speedy recovery. It’s a nasty end to the season.’

Just as the Sunderland boss was recovering from this blow to his talented midfielder he lost another during training today.

Lee Cattermole, who has had a very disrupted season, is also facing a spell on the sielines with a dislocated shoulder.

The England U21 midfielder will miss the final game of the season and undergo scans and tests to see how long he will be out for.

In the last bit of rumoured news it looks very certain that Sunderland will be signing the ‘Egyptian Beckham’ Ahmed Al-Muhammadi in the next few days.

As reported on Sky Sports in January it looked as though Bruce had got his man in the last transfer window but this did not happen on time.

The players agent Abdul-Sadek commented on the deal by adding: ‘A Sunderland representative will come to Egypt after the end of the English Premier League to wrap up the deal.’

So all in all a busy day at the club on the field and off!
