Al-Ain chief executive Carlo Nohra is ‘very confident’ that the UAE side will complete the purchase of Sunderland forward Asamoah Gyan this summer.

The Ghanaian forward has enjoyed a successful loan spell with Al-Ain, notching 17 league goals so far.

Despite talk in January of a re-call for the former Rennes and Udinse forward, nothing materialised and Gyan’s future will surely come under scrutiny again this summer.

However, Al-Ain chief executive Nohra is confident that ‘The Boss’ will be able to secure a permanent move for the forward this summer.

Speaking to Sport 360, Nohra said:

“I`m very confident that he will be staying. He has indicated on a number of occasions that he would like to remain at the club.’

Nohra continued:

‘There is a loan agreement that we need to work out with Sunderland, but what is really important is that the player wants to be here and we would like to keep him. So now it`s about working out the logistics of a transfer. That doesn`t mean it`s going to happen, but the seeds are there for us to ensure that this becomes a long-term deal.”

For me, good player though Gyan undoubtedly is, anyone who is prepared to turn their back on a strong league for the financial rewards of a seriously inferior league is welcome to.

The money that Gyan’s sale will surely rake in will help M’ON bring a forward who wants to play for Sunderland to the club this summer.
