Sunderland take on struggling Aston Villa this afternoon at the Stadium of Light and Sam Allardyce has warned his players not to be failures again.

Big Sam describes today’s game as Sunderland’s biggest of the season. Failure to beat Aston Villa could see sides just above the Black Cats move even more points in front and Sam believes that the gap does not need to reach double figures points-wise.

Sunderland sit seven points away from safety going into today’s game and they also have a four point cushion over Villa, but a defeat could alter things drastically

Form running up to the game has seen Sunderland lose five games on the bounce, not the sort of form you want to be in for such a crucial game.

Allardyce is quoted on BT Sport as saying: ‘It’s the biggest game of the season – and the last time we faced the biggest game of the season, we failed miserably.

‘That was Watford and Watford are a very good side, but we were capable of winning that game, I felt and on the performance, were capable of winning it even though we conceded early on and didn’t take our chances.

‘We failed miserably because that would have got us to 15 points with 16 games gone and we haven’t won a point since then, so it’s even bigger this one now than Watford.’
