A quick roundup of the recent news at Sunderland including speculation we have offered Jack Rodwell a mutual contract termination.

Ahead of the game against Cardiff City last weekend, Sunderland confirmed that goalkeeper Mika Domingues had now left the Stadium of Light having agreed a mutual contract termination of his own and he moves on as a free agent.

The club also confirmed that James Vaughan has now departed for Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

The 29 year old striker scored twice in 23 appearances following his arrival from Bury over the summer.

Chris Coleman also confirmed that midfielder Darron Gibson had now undergone surgery on the groin injury he picked up.

Gibson is expected to be sidelined for around 8-12 weeks.

Speaking to the Official Site the gaffer explained.

‘He`s had surgery so Darron will be out for eight to 12 weeks. It`s a blow because the way we were going it was going well for Darron, but it`ll be between eight and 12 weeks I imagine.’

Our Championship clash away to Birmingham City at St Andrew’s Stadium has been given a new date.

The game has been rescheduled for Tuesday January 30 with a 7.45pm kick off time and it had originally been bounced owing to their involvement in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Sky Sports are reporting that Sunderland have offered to terminate Jack Rodwell’s deal and let him leave for free this month.

The 26 year old is believed to be our highest earner at the club and Sky report he has formally asked to leave the club, and to enable that to happen given his wage we will let him walk away for free.

There’s no confirmation of this though and Sky themselves say that the player and his agent are yet to respond to the reported offer.
