4 Days Remaining – Who Can Solve Our Problems?

We have signed just the one player in the shape of Matthew Kilgallon from Sheffield United. He has already made a decent start in his away debut against Everton but he knows all about being a Sunderland player on the road as it ended in defeat.

The transfer window has been awfully quiet this season due to the recession and the weak pound not being spent on foreign talent. However, this has to be addressed by Quinn and Ellis Short as the finances could be dire if we get relegated come May with the current squad.

Since December it has been made vocal by press and internet sites where we need to strengthen but so far only one centre defender has been added this window.

We are desperate for two new full backs to replace McCartney and Bardsley. Bruce likes attacking full backs after but he seems to be hitting every brick wall out there in his search to bring one to Sunderland AFC. Maynor Figueroa has been rumoured since last Summer but Wigan refuse to let him leave, bids have been made by Sunderland but Martinez has stood firm on him not leaving the Latics.

We have also been rumoured to Rodi Fanni from Rennes and Guy Demel but both of these signings seem to have went cold also. Are we making the right offers to these clubs or are players aware of our awful form in the league at present?

It seems every player we have been linked to this season has had some reason not to join. Cabanas was strongly linked to join in the summer but due to the tragedy that unfolded in a Mexico City bar this means our search will continue elsewhere.

Adam Johnson from Middlesbrough has signalled his intent to leave but to Man City for more money. We are desperate for wide players with talent and he would have been a perfect signing, not just for now, but for many seasons to come in the top flight.

In today`s press we have been linked to numerous players such as the promising Victor Moses, Benjani, and David Bentley. If we want to survive this season we need to take a risk and pay the money for these types of players as the current squad are just not performing on the pitch.

We know there will be a few more faces arriving before the important Stoke game on Monday but we cannot just buy anyone for the sake of adding numbers. We trust in Bruce and Quinn to deliver the goods in the next 4 days but they will have their work cut out in order to bring in the right types to push onwards.
