Steve Bruce is on the verge of becoming the next manager of Sunderland after agreeing terms with the Black Cats. The soon-to-be-ex-Wigan manager will earn in the region of £60,000 a week in his new role, which will see him have a £50m transfer kitty this summer.

Yesterday, Sunderland had confirmed that they had agreed a fee for Bruce with Wigan, and it now seems that terms have been agreed to allow Bruce to move onto his seventh managerial role.

Plans are in place for Bruce to be introduced to the media at lunchtime tomorrow, with Bruce bring his coaching team with him to the Stadium of Light. Eric Black will assist Bruce, with Nigel Spink taking over as goalkeeping coach. Bruce`s reserve team coach at Wigan, Keith Bertschin, will also join Bruce. Reports have also suggested that Lee Cattermole and Titus Bramble could also make the trip to the North East.

So, ten days after Sbragia resigned from his job, Sunderland look set to unveil his successor. However, Bruce will have to work hard to win over some sections of the Sunderland crowd, which will likely increase in numbers if he signs Bramble. And considering that Sunderland paid a fee to hire Bruce and will pay him £3m a year, the pressure will certainly be on the Geordie.

I think this will be a good appointment for Sunderland. Bruce has proven himself as a Premiership manager, and whilst he hasn’t been winning trophies he brings stability to the role. What I like about him is he won’t take any nonsense but also seems to bring the best out of good players.
